The Poplar Creek Public Library District is located in Streamwood, Illinois and serves a population of over 66,000 residents from Streamwood, Hanover Park, Elgin and a small portion of Bartlett and Schaumburg.  The District also includes the Sonya Crawshaw Branch located in Hanover Park.

The original library was created after a successful referendum in 1966.  Originally located in a storefront, the library increased to four storefronts between the years of 1969 and 1975 and increased the number of hours it was open to 66 hours per week.  Not long after that the library converted to a district library and began offering services to a large part of Hanover Park.  One year later construction began for a new building located on Park Avenue.  In 1980 the library became a government depository for federal and state documents. In 1991 a modular unit became the Branch in Hanover Park.  In 2006 it was named the Sonya Crawshaw Branch in honor of the late President of Hanover Park.

The library has a collection of over 250,000 materials, over 300 periodical and newspaper subscriptions and other items such as DVD’S, CD’s and books on CD in its collection.  The library also provides its member’s access to the Internet as well as access to other computer programs. The library also serves as a community resource offering tax assistance, voter registration, to name a few.

The library is a member of the Dupage Library System.
