theatreThursday, April 17th at 7:00pm: Chicago-based magician, William Pack, will present “Houdini, His Life & Legend”. Join us for an exciting look into the fascinating life of Harry Houdini and the turn-of-the-century world that made him. This is a thrilling interactive storytelling presentation. Watch as Houdini’s genius comes to life as audience members participate in a re-creation of some of the master magician’s tricks. Stay after for an informal Q&A. Also take time to browse Mr. Pack’s mini-museum of Houdini posters, pictures and other amazing ephemera. Registration is required: (630) 483-4910


The Piper is Coming!

theatreTuesday, April 22nd at 7:00pm: Mr. Kevin Chapman is a Piper on the Great Highland Bagpipes and has been playing for almost 30 YEARS. Kevin has played the Pipes both solo and is currently with the Shannon Rovers Pipe Band. He also competes in Solo piping competitions. He has played before 4 Presidents, Pope John XXIII, Tip O'Neill, Cardinal George and both Mayor Daley’s. He is a graduate of the North American Piping School and the Balmoral School of Piping. During this presentation you will be taken on a trip and be introduced to the history of the pipes and a narrative on the story of the oldest instrument still played in the world. He will also have a display of regalia and explain it’s meaning. Registration is required: (630) 483-4910

The Poplar Creek Public Library has recently added twenty-five Polish language fiction titles to our collection.  The new titles are shelved next to our Spanish Adult collection on the lower level.  If you need assistance, please check with the Reference Desk.

The Safari Books Online Public Library Series offers digital books and training videos in technology. The first of the three modules, Personal and Professional Development Library, covers business skills, leadership, entrepreneurship, communications, finance, and career development. The second module covers Microsoft office products, digital photography, social media, and PC maintenance. The third module offers Beginning Programming, Java, C#, ASP.NET, MySQL, Ruby, Web development, gaming and more.


GED Testing Resources



The GED testing resources link (http//:www.gedtestingservice.com/assessment) will provide information on the changes on testing beginning January 1, 2014.  After this date the tests will be revised to prepare students for Workforce and for College Preparation.
